A typical departure order is
Early Sept - Cuckoo, Swift,
Early /mid Sept - Pied flycatcher Reed warbler, Sedge warbler, Lesser WT, Garden warbler,Redstart, Tree pipit,
Mid /late Sept - Whitethroat, Willow warbler, Sp. Flycatcher, Yellow Wagtail, Blackcap, sand martin,
Late Sept / early October Wheatear, chiffchaff, ouzel, house martin, swallow .

I agree with Swallow. In my area Mid-Essex it's been a few years that I can recall swifts leaving in September. When I were a lad in the 30's it was common, but last year (the limit of my memory now) I remember that they disappeared really early (at least from my sky), around end of June/early July. Maybe there were better pickings elsewhere - if it works like that. And this year they appear to have departed about two weeks ago. This year also they came down at times very low, like across the patio window, never seen that before. Interestingly when I moved outside to eat my toast and watch them, they all moved up to a higher level. So they were aware of human presence. Anyone any ideas.

I heard a turtle dove at Woods Mill in Sussex 18/08/2010.
No more swifts seen over our estate, we had around 50 just over a week ago.
Still seeing House Martins and Swallows out in the country though.

Swifts left here pn Wedensday That was the last time I heard them screaming over the buildings (Sigh)
watching Swollows and Martins heading south yesterday (Saturday) 21st .

I saw over 50 Swallows and Sand Martins yesterday at the Ythan and 2 swallows today headin down the coast.
Realy miss those guys already!
