Osprey

Was out this morning real early to learn bird song with my real good friend Grace. She is amasing at telling what is singing where.

Anyway... we heard and saw the Blackcaps . Willow Warblers (first Ive heard them this year  so that was great.

A few of the calls I did know like the Blue tit and the great Tit also the Wren and the house sparrow. It was a great time .

By the way I dident know that Mute swans made any kind of sound other than a Hiss when they get miffed at ye  We stood and watched one that was making a kind of Mewing sound!...

So about 09:15 we sat by the river watching the Treecreepers when I noticed the gulls go up  and thought ok there has to be a Sparrowwhak or maybe my mate the Buzzard going about .

We watched one gull start to dive on a Bird and by its size I thought it was the Buzzard. I then lifted my Bins to my eyes then kinda spat my coffee out when I saw it was the OSPREY.

Its the first time I have seen one on the River Don. It wasent fishing  just passing over and the funny thing was that  Grace said about 10 minutes before hand that she would love to see one LOL.

All in all it was a fantastic mornings birding  with 3 of the wagtails seen also

Pied / Grey and white wagtails.

Not bad for being in the City lol

Cheers

  • We have had one here in Southampton for the past couple of weeks, they pass through here every year....it sits on the same dead tree at the Lower Test Nature Reserve. I was watching it for a good half an hour and it didn't move...it's certainly a beautiful bird.
