Hello all
At our visit to Abberton Reservoir, I took this shot of a group of birds in the distance. Apologies for the bad quality but they really were far away. Can someone confirm whether they are Cormorants. If so, never knew they nested in trees!
Regards
Kerry

Hi Kezmo
They look like Cormorants to me {smile}
Never seen so many in one group before. That is quite a lot of birds.
They like to stick with their own species, so they are sociable birds.

Hi Blackbird
Thanks for your reply, I thought they might have been but it's always nice when it is confirmed by someone who knows so much more than me. Only wished I could get a photo that was nearer as I think seeing them altogether in one close shot would have been great.
if you go to Abberton in the evening you can see them from the Layer de le Haye causeway coming into roost in big flocks
Camera always at the ready!!

Thanks HawkBuzzard for that information, we will go again and hopefully we'll have better luck.
Lovely to see so many cormorants together! They roost in often quite large, dense flocks. And they do nest in trees - in fact in such cases, the resulting build-up of droppings can accumulate so much so that it eventually kills the nest tree!
