Hi JimBob
Lovely pictures of the Juv Stonechat
It could be a Juv Whinchat, expect Whinchat's have a strong white supercillium above the eye.

Kathy and Dave

It is only really strong white in adults, this is a very young bird, and in the Stonechat the legs don't begin this dark it more gradual. I am not 100% but 90 ish with MarJus on this one. Soz.
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Its a Juvenile Whinchat indeed!
He/she was with the parents on the edge of a new forestry plantation in June of last year.
I spent ages watching them snatch insects out out of the air - in the manner of Flycatchers.
Kathy and Dave, strangely, all the other birds around had strong supercillium, but this one didn't seem to be as well marked....
Wow! I got it right? That was a lucky guess really! It's down to this photo I took of a juvenile stonechat and it looks quite different... hence going for the whinchat!
