Hi all,
It's sunset, everything's very orange-y, and birdie is twisted away and has a some buds and blossom in front. I thought female blackbird when I snapped it, but looking at it more closely on the screen, the spots began to bug me. But then, female blackbirds can be a bit spotty, no?

Female Blackbirds can be a bit spotty - but they tend to be darker, especially underneath. Also, this one is singing in the photo which strongly suggests that it is a male.

[/quote] Sorry, it wasn't meant to be cryptic - I just forgot to say that it was a Song Thrush. In most UK bird species females rarely sing (if ever). Notable exceptions are Robin and Cetti's Warbler.

Thanks for the spotty female blackbird alan. I have some female blackbird pix, but mine are less spotty and more... brown...
Thanks - and thanks for the addttional detail
Hi-
the only thing I'll add is that even allowing for fore shortening the tail is way TOO short for a blackbird.
Song thrush
