Unable to identify, help needed please

Yesterday, while watching Redwings , a bird landed on the back of one of our outdoor chairs right underneath the kitchen window. It was bigger than a wagtail, but not as big as a blackbird.

It's back and head were sleek and a velvety dark to medium brown. The underneath appeared to be a yellowy beige colour. Dark slender legs. Quit a slender pointed beak.

unfortunately, it was only there for seconds and no time to grab the camera. I have looked all day in books and online to try and identify, with no success.

Can anyone help please?

Regards

Lesley

Might be a first year Female/Male Blackbird as their feathers have odd colouration.

A young Blackbird can look like another bird all together.

  • Thanks for your replies everyone. The bird I saw was small headed, There was a definite distinction in the colouring. Dark wings, back and head, almost like plain dark brown velvet. The underneath was almost yellow. No markings on wings.

To be honest, it  looked like a swift/swallow/Martin in shape. I know they all migrate, so doubtful.

i didn't respond quick enough when it took off to see it fly. It was very quick.

I'm hoping it will come back, but no sign of it today.
