A new visitor to my garden today. I think it could have been a song thrush but could do with your opinions.
He was about blackbird size. Brown upper parts, buff coloured eye brows and throat, which lightened to cream as it went downwards to chest and belly. Dark spots from face downwards, which were possibly v-shaped on his chest. His upper beak was dark and his lower beak was yellow. He had pink legs. He was up in a tree on his own (apart from a few starlings and sparrows), looking round. He flew down to the ground and pecked at some food for a while, landed on my Christmas tree, which is currently on the patio, then on a shrub, then back to ground for some more pecking before flying to a neighbouring roof. He was then chased off by a blackbird.
I did take a photo of him in the tree but it was too far away for my little camera and I was too busy trying to ID him through my binns!
Cheers, Linda.

Thanks LB for the response and the information. I was trying very hard to get my brain to remember all the details I noticed whilst jumping for joy at another new bird this winter. He came back later and the following photo was taken from an upstairs window. He was on my patio table, and this looks like a good place lo leave some food out for him tomorrow.
Wow! Great pic Sparrow! What a lovely visitor to have! One which is sadly lacking in my area...

That is a beautiful photo Sparrow - especially with the bird set against the snow. Well captured!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Super Song Thrush pictures everyone.
Gosh they look rotund at this time of the year
Must be really fluffed up due to the cold weather.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for replying and for your far too kind comments about my photos! I do my best, but I know it isn't good enough!! Perhaps Santa will be kind next Christmas and bring me a good camera.
I am delighted with the new addition to my garden, to add to the pied wagtail (who, by the way, is still visiting every day). Still on the look out for redwings, fieldfares ... oh! and buzzards!!!!!!
Hey! Don't forget those reed buntings!! ;-)
Still not sure about the reed buntings. I need them to come again - they may well have been sparrows in fancy dress!!!!
