This bird sort of eludes me as to what it is, so any thought would be well appreciated.
Thanks,
David
this is a garden warblwer could this be your 1st bird
yor seconed bird could be a female green finch
Sorry Bev, but I disagree with both of your suggestions. The beak is wrong in both pics for them to be either robin for the first, or greenfinch for the second. I still stick with my initial suggestion of Dunnock for the first, and am inclined to agree with Seymouraves and Buzzard about the second being one of the warblers!

It looks like a Chiffchaff or Lesser Whitethroat to me.
It had quite a dark cap so that makes me think of ChiffChaff

It is a hard one for sure! Of all the suggestions so far I'd say Lesser Whitethroat fits the best.
The angle of the beak makes its size hard to judge, so not much use here.
The eye ring is broken as is LWT
The eye darker than Whitethroat as LWT
The legs do look darkish as LWT
The pale edges to tail again LWT
All that makes me think like KatTai and Blackbird here.
I can't find a picture to support any warbler, not well anyway, and there is lots to choose from.
Lesser Whitethroat fits quite well, maybe not perfectly, but well enough on this pictiure.
John :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
YES I DISSAGREE WITH MY SELF NOW LOL CHIFF CHAFF LOOKS GOOD FOR FIRST ONE DUNNOCK DOES NOT LOOK SPECKELED ENOUGH
