This bird sort of eludes me as to what it is, so any thought would be well appreciated.
Thanks,
David
Tricky, because there's only a front view.
I would lean towards it being a female blackcap because you can just make out the brown coloured head if you enlarge it. However, I would hold fire until others have given their opinion.

Hi david
Am going with Dunnock too in your first photo but just really wanted to say hello and welcome to the forum from me. Haven't a clue what your second photo is but both photos are lovely!

No, sorry David it doesn't. The original is better to work with.
I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. I enlarged it by opening it in a new window then you can make it bigger by using Ctrl + as many times as you want. Of course there is a loss of resolution but it can help.
Let's wait until we get a few more opinions
Welcome also :-) Pic 1 certainly more dunnocky than sparrow because of the beak , no idea on pic 2 :-)

Hello & welcome,
could pic 1 be a garden warbler?
Not very good at this but it looks too dull for a dunnock. Beak isn't chunky enough for a sparrow.
Hi,
It's definitely a dunnock, note the pale fleshy legs, slender bill, flank spots and greyish cast to the sides of the head and neck

Hi
this bird is a real puzzle :) It could take a while to sort out :))
The bill appears too slim for whitethroat or blackcap
There is a good eyering -
The legs appear darkish - WT has pale fleshy legs
The undertail appears to show paler outer tail feathers
The eye appears dark- WT's is pale
I am thinking phylloscopus, maybe a willow warbler, there seems to be vague yellowish on the breast
Hi David, welcome to the forum.
As already mentioned by other members the 1st photo is a Dunnock.
The 2nd photo, as mentioned poses a few problems. I have cropped it and enlarged it, also altered the brightness which is were the difficulties arise because you are not getting the true colours.
I would also agree with what Seymouraves has said and would go along the lines of a Willow Warbler or Chiff Chaff, because of the greenish, yellowish markings.
There are a few ways to distinguish them apart, but the main way for many birders is the call and song.
Chiff Chaff been
"Chiff Chaff"
Willow Warbler been
double call of "hoo-eet; song, lovely cascading trilling warble.
Hope this helps Buzzard
