Hi I noticed these birds in my garden this morning eating berries off the tree, i had three in total and was just hoping somone could tell me what they are. How can i encourage these little birds to come back.

Thanks Nisus, fantastic colours on the bird. Ill get a feeder and see if i can get them back. They must like the berries on the tree at the back.
Cheers Paul
Definitely a goldfinch. They are seed eaters, so nyger seed etc. will be good. You can put this in hanging feeders, or, more creatively, in teazel heads stuck in the ground. In fact if you've got space to grow a stand of teazels in your garden from scratch that's even better . While the flowers are on the heads you'll be attracting butterflies and hoverflies, then they go to seed which the goldfinches will go for, then when they're empty of seed you can 'refill' them with nyger seed!
Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum.
Well done getting 3 goldfinches. We are all bemoaning the fact our garden goldies have disappeared, apart from one of our members - Buzzard - who seems to have them all !!!!! He lives in the North East. You aren't his next door neighbour by any chance are you?!!!???
Cheers, Linda.

I do think that someone should lead Paul to the other thread. 'Missing Goldfinch, The sequel-------------.
Welcome Paul, you just chose a bad day to mention Goldfinch. Don't worry too much, I think they will recover.
Welcome from me too sob, sob, sob.... goldfinches.... sob, sob, sob......
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Wecolme to the forum Paul
I'm afraid I'm the one that Sparrow, Kezmo, Squirrel are relating too!!!
