This is the best pic I have and unfortunately the bird has his head turned away slightly! Is it a dunnock? It certainly looks like one but I hesitate as there was a flock of them (this was the only one close enough for a picture) and I've always thought of these birds as staying only in pairs... Thanks! Taken yesterday in Shropshire.

Have decided to go look up the Wikkipedia on this and hopefully posting pic below - which, to me, looks quite different to the birdy above... Opinions?

Still a dunnock lol
You can see the greyish head and rusty-coloured back and the pretty patterning, plus the narrow beak in the original photo.

Hi.I'm positive that both pictures show a dunnock. Are there different races of dunnock, causing the birds to look slightly different depending which part of the country they belong to?Paul.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
hi MarJus
I am sure that your picture shows a Dunnock but as this years youngster.
Youngsters are much plainer in appearance with a more speckled chest are. Your one shows signs of that speckling.
The adults have the definate grey markings around the face area
So both pictures shown are Dunnocks

Well that's precisely why I questioned myself!! Lol! Think it probably is a dunnock simply because I just can't think what else it could be!!
Hi MarJus
We all question ourselves while learning about birds
Some of the questions I ask myself on my wildlife Forums LOL {blush}
Funnily enough I looked at one of my bird books and it tells you that there is not any other bird species like a Dunnock.
The species is unique in its own right, so there is no chance of confusing the species with any other ones {thumbs up}
I bow to Blackbird's superior knowledge :-)
You have created a great picture on this thread, and I enjoyed looking at your pictures in your gallery too. {thumbs up}
Great photography, and great skill to have.
Well done {thumbs up}
Thanks Kathy! That's very kind of you! Pleased that you enjoyed them! (Many, many more of Flickr!) ;-)
