Good morning,
This morning at about 9.30 I saw a very large flock of smallish birds flying over the farmer's field behind our house. They usually drop down into the field out of sight and I have no chance of and ID but this time 6 settled in a neighbour's tree and preened for a while. I think they were linnets but would appreciate a second opinion please. I took some photos but they are not good as the tree was a long way away. If they are there again tomorrow I shall go into the field and sneak a bit closer to the tree and try to take some better ones.
I should really have been at work by 9.30 but the birds made me late - lol!

Can't help with the ID as I can't remember the last time I saw a linnet but they are cracking photos and what a good capture if they are linnets. Well done.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

It was great to see the flock wheeling about over the field and I am so pleased to be able to put a name to them now. They are too small and move too fast to ID with binoculars at that distance so I was very lucky that some came to rest in next door's tree. I presume they fly with goldfinches as there were quite alot of them about this morning and two settled in the same tree as the linnets. Fingers crossed I can get some closer shots another day.
Linnets are the best (Speaking as one myself - born & bred King's Lynn!)
Little beggars to get a good pic of though - best I've done so far is this feller from Newborough, Anglesey this summer. Good luck with sneaking up on them .. we linnets can be a funny lot!
