Seen last Sunday (8th Jan) at Junction 16 M6.
Distinctive feature was white chest. It was large. perched by roundabout.
It looked Osprey like but the time of year is obviously wrong.
Any suggestions? I always think Buzzard when I see a large bird of prey, do some have white fronts?
Nick
Yes, buzzard colouration varies greatly so it is entirely possible it was a buzzard. Some can be dark, others pale, one round here has a very white speckled chest. The behaviour also matches a buzzard, so I'd say it was most likely to be a common buzzard :-)

I agree with Kat. Take a look at the photos that were posted of a Buzzard on this thread. It shows just how white chested they can be.

Thanks. That's what I thought, I just couldn't find any images of a white breasted buzzard.
Thanks - just seen your images. That's what I was looking for before. Confirmed.
is this white enough for you ? Taken by me during the severe winter January 2010

Good photo that! You'd almost think it was another species!
:-)
Seriously thinking about trying harder!
Thanks Jackdaw. I'm not a very good photographer nor do I have the best gear , but we all have to get lucky sometime so I guess it was my turn that day.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I agree, Optibogglers and Dave; I would not have stayed here on the forum if I had not found many helpful, lovely people here. Oh, ha, ha, Dave--'patient'! Those 2012 Buzzards probably have 6 or 8 or more generations of descendants by now...or did you mean the human posters are patient?! As for the band of pale Buzzards you mentioned 'in the mid-east of the country', did you mean in France or where, please?
Kind regards, Ann
