Butterfly seen in Canada last month

I'd appreciate a positive identification.

  • It's a beautiful butterfly isn't it?  Were there lots of them or just the one?  A friend and I went to some woods near where I live which are apparently famous for purple emperor butterflies but we were unlucky that day.  Maybe next year...

It certainly is. My wife & I were taken by relatives to the Assiniboine Gardens in Winnipeg, so main attraction was flowers etc, but for myself the wild life called. The butterflies were in small numbers but I also saw hummingbirds which I tried unsuccesfully to photograph. They move too fast and flit from blossom to blossom.

My camera is an Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom.

  • I'd love to see a hummingbird but I don't think my camera could cope either.  I have a Panasonic FZ28 super zoom and I love taking photos of flowers and birds etc.  It's new so I am still practicing and trying out all the different settings.  I'll have to wait for next summer to try for butterfly shots though.
