Brown Headed Cowbird? If so, what is it doing in my garden, I thought it was a native to North America? Sorry about the terrible quality but at dusk
my camera is as good as useless. Hopefully it will return and I'll have another shot.
NO.
For me, shape his wrong, seems too thick and 'pot bellied', with head being too rounded
Furthremore, head is too light and rusty for cowbird and theres a hint of a yellow eye ring.
Timings wrong, unlikely to turn up in LATE SUMMER as well.
As to what I think it is is, I have a few sugestions
Blackbird- bald ad male ( as the feathers give a ruff and cut in towards the body giving head an out of proportion look)
Two birds
Prehaps something gone wrong with mould, or a well progressed juv blackbird of some description?
Thanks. What a pity, thought I'd hit the jackpot with something new. I'll try and get a better shot if it turns up again tomorrow. I have to say, the head was a lot darker than appears on the photo, the camera doesn't give a good example of it in reality.
As Michael says it's too early yet for Cowbird and I reckon he did well to get as much detail as he did from that picture I struggled to get much.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I have to admit I thought it was a blackbird with a bald head - this happens when they have mites and quite a few have been posted on the forum from time to time.
Cheers, Linda.
