My wife heard an unusual call in our garden and tracked it down to this little beauty.
We think that it is a juvenile little owl but would welcome confirmation (or otherwise) from the knowledgable folk here.
I can provide a link to much higher resolution versions if necessary.
Thanks in anticipation.
Regards from sunny Norfolk.
It is certainly a little owl. I suspect an adult but others might be better placed to comment on that.

I would agree with the adult little owl id from Bob. What a great wee bird to have visiting the garden!!

yes adult little owl. lovely little fella.
Thank you to you all - much appreciated. My wife saw two of them at one point so we're hoping that they will become regular visitors.
Wow such great birds to have!

Hi there!
To keep your Little Owl pair coming to your garden, make sure you have a good wild patch. They love insects and small mice and voles etc. They are post hunters so the fence post is just brilliant though they will also hunt from branches etc.
They like holes in walls etc for breeding and roosting but they are known to favour nestboxes put up for them - you can find plans and info on suitable nest boxes quite easily on the web and there is an RSPB leaflet that will help.
I've only ever fed mealworms to individuals in captivity or in our hospital but you never know!!
Good luck!
