Hello
I was hoping someone could help identify this Egret I saw in North Yorkshire recently.
I am reasonably certain it is a Great Egret distinguished from the Little Egret due to colour of the bill. I did however then get my bird book out and the possibility of a Cattle Egret threw the cat amongst the pigeons (or Egrets!).
Looks like a great egret to me

As Linda says it's definitely a Great Egret. Cattle Egrets are smaller with a shorter stubbier bill and don't have such a long neck as you can see from the pic below.
In the breeding season they have orange plumes from the back of the head and breast
