I am stumped by a photo of a bird that a colleague has sent on to me. It looks black and white from the pic and appeared larger than a blackbird or robin. It was seen in an urban area in Hertfordshire this week (24 July). It made a call like a car siren and was very loud for a smaller bird.
I genuinely am not sure what it is? Could it possibly be an escaped cage or game bird?

Partridge - I think - I encountered one in Thurrock in May that was just mooching along the road in a very un-fussed fashion

Thank you - the more I look at it, the more I agree. Seems the rain and light may have given the impression of quite different plumage and I think looking at the beak and face it could be Red Legged Partridge
Yes -it does look like it's quite soggy.
