This sound has been coming from our ceiling for the past week or so (it's a flat so in between floors, though we can't find an opening) and is mostly chirping in the wee hours, starting anything from 7pm to 9pm continuing up until around 7am.
A bird app identified it as a great tit, but after the increased intensity & frequency and the lack of visible entry points we're wondering if it could be a cricket.
Also....any suggestions of what to do? It's relentless!

Does one of your neighbours keep reptiles? Sounds like one of their feeder crickets has escaped.
As for what to do … eventually it will croak. If you know where it is you might be able to catch it. They sure can be annoying but a lone insect won’t trouble you for too long.
