Actually, as you wrote 'or' then you were technically correct :)

You may be new to birding but the guesses you suggested included the answer.

But a word of advice - always rule out the most common and obvious answer first and then move on to the next possible candidate.

Rarities usually are just that i.e 'rare' - and that doesn't mean to say that you will never see one, of course.
