Young kestrel from the wing colour (they are the same bird, aren’t they?). And hobbies are long since gone south.

The streaking looks a bit heavy for a Merlin but they do vary and as Internetman points out Hobbies should have left for warmer climes by now. A young Kestrel seems about right, always nice to see and their numbers are decreasing in our area.

Wellllll............

I say the underpart markings are heavy enough for Merlin
but not the underwing markings- especially on the primaries

The moustache is the giveaway - It's too heavy for Merlin and good for Kestrel
