I woke up at around 2am a few nights ago and heard this strange noise, it got gradually louder then completely stopped...
It sounds similar to a large metal wire wobbling but it definitely isn't!
By Chester, many houses but many gardens backing onto each other.
Genuinely thought aliens were lurking

Have just started to hear a fox here last couple of nights & wondered if it was the start of mating season ... this link may be of interest ypte.org.uk/.../breeding
Mine was just a dog fox barking but there were some unearthly screams last season when female interest was on the scene!
