Raptor on the isle of Mull

Hello everyone, I'd love some help identifying this bird of prey I saw through the mists on the Isle of Mull this July.

Apologies for the bad photos, all I had was my phone, perhaps someone can tell though!

I was hoping for a hen harrier, would be my first sighting if confirmed :)

Many thanks in advance!

Peter

  • Could be - but could be something else too :)

It's head seems bowed, and I think I can make out some blurred fingers, but that's not enough for a definite id.

Can you recall its behaviour? Or any markings at all? That you're confident of, that is.

But sorry, a rear shot, photographed in mist? I think you'll have to put it down as being unidentifiable.

Just don't convince yourself it's something that you want to see - examine the evidence and go from there.

In saying all that, if another member can see something that I can't then...
  • Thanks for the reply, realise its a rather wishful hope!

Markings unfortunately not, but behaviour wise, it was flying back and forth across moorland.

Not holding out for anything in particular, the trip was blessed with plenty of other unique sightings!
