On a short stay in Lytham we saw various waders on the Ribble estuary- can anyone please help to identify them for me - Loaded as numbers 1,2,3,4 Thank you.

Number 1 is oystercatcher. Number 2 is Black backed gull and number 4 is little egret

I'd suggest Oystercatcher (distinctive beak & overall colour), Greater Black-backed Gull (Lesser Black-backed has yellow legs which doesn't seem the case here, they look pink & dirty), Redshank (checkout those legs!), Little Egret (black beak, yellow feet - the Great White Egret is bigger & has yellow beak & black feet so easy to distinguish)

I reckon Whistling Joe right, just saying Black Backed Gull does not really help as we hsve two of them

Ok. The reason I just put Black backed gull was cause the poster might not of known what type of gull it Is and  the poster might of been glad just to get a confirmation and hear it’s a back backed gull since that’s what it is even though I havnt specified the species. that’s the main reason I didn’t say what species of black backed gull it is.  but II remember to be more specific next time
