Can anyone tell me what this enormous gull is that I saw on its own on Tatton Mere in Cheshire this morning. The deer were rutting and the young humbug crested grebes were on the water- but this gull was on its own. Thank you.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
