Can anybody help id this bird - seen in spring (North West England) this year (16/4/2022 from photo data). seen in parkland/grassland near small river

That's a Grey Heron - they are quite common.

Will eat seemingly anything animal though to quench their appetite :)

ok great thanks for your help - I thought it might have been a visiting bird. I didnt realise that the younger (immature) Grey Herons look different to the older ones - the neck dosent seem as 'long'
