As Seymour says it is a very pale Common Buzzard sk pale in my opinion that it probably causes quite a few id problems in its time. We have a big female with similar plumage locally and that has caused a few problems in the last 4 or 5 years it has been around .

Many thanks! I've been looking more at honey buzzard pictures and think I have a better grip on them now--just need to get out and find some to see!

In the North of England a good place to see summering Honey Buzzard is the Wykeham Raptor viewpoint in the North Yorkshire Forest not far from Scarborough. As with many raptor views the birds can be quite distance.
