Some sort of Chat?

Hello, I'd welcome thoughts and advice on this bird which I saw yesterday on my walk near Ramsley Reservoir (near Shillito Wood, Derbyshire) Sorry I couldn't get any better photos. This bird seemed to be about the size of a robin and was perched on some ferns around 50 metres away. Looking through my bird books and using some websites I think it may be some sort of chat - perhaps a juvenile. In the area I also saw a male stonechat and quite a few meadow pipits. I don't think it's a meadow pipit - too small and the markings don't seem quite right for a pipit. My books suggest that it could be a stonechat or maybe a whinchat. Sadly I couldn't manage to get a photo of the front of this bird. No problem if it can't be definitively identified.
