Help with identification

Can anybody help me with the identification of this bird? I took the photo last week on the north coast of Jersey, Channel Islands. It was Sparrow or Robin sized and perched on a coastal slope covered with gorse and bracken. The light was strong sunshine.

It looks a lot like a melanistic dunnock. The BTO has an abnormal plumage survey and I 100% recommend adding this to their sightings list as it is valuable scientific data! www.bto.org/.../species_types

Thanks for the suggestion. I went to the website to fill in the survey, but it is only for birds that people see in their own gardens. They ask for the postcode of the garden so they can locate the sighting. Although a Dunnock is garden bird, that's not where I saw it...I saw it on holiday in Jersey.
