I saw a big black bird in my garden earlier. I haven't seen one before and it was bigger than the Jackdaws. After looking at photos on the Internet to identify it I'm still unsure. It didn't make a noise which would have helped. Is it your bog standard crow or a raven? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Maverick
I'd say more likely a crow.
If I'm wrong, I know someone will correct me.

That was my thoughts, along with probabilities.
agree probably a Crow
HERE is what the woodland Trust have put together. Shows comparisons.
Here’s an example of a Raven. I can’t fimd a photo that would help for size though. But size wise they are larger than the rest of the crow family. But With the photo you sent abouve I would say that a crow is most likely aswell

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Its not the only reason why I sent the examples but Those are one of the reasons Iv sent some examples. I know a lot about Ravens so I think Exspeacially if the owner of the post hasnt seen one before or doesnt know what they look like they might come in handy. Also The first time I saw the owners photo It didn’t really look like a Raven.
Thats interesting. There’s some Nature reserves and quarrys on the Cotswold Hills and cause its AONB and it has sites of speacial interest includeing rare animals. Its a protected area, they have a sign on one of them that says what Wildlife to look out for and one of the signs say theres a nest of Ravens so is one of the ones to look out for.. I havnt stayed still in one place for long enough there to look out for them though but I am thinking of looking out for them next time I go.
