This bird flew into the bushes in our garden yesterday and we can't be sure if it is a female sparrowhawk or a goshawk. We live on the edge of farmland with a wood at the top of the hill.
Anyone help identify it?
Hi Goldfinch. You have a beautiful female Sparrowhawk there. Lovely photo.

Hi,
this looks like a juvenile female sparrowhawk- note the breast is streaked and not barred and the back is quite warm rufous brown not dull greyish brown.

Thanks to everyone for the great replies to the posting of my photograph and first question. My female sparrowhawk has been around today again eyeing up the goldfinch on my bird table. A very brave jay buzzed it!
