Where was the picture taken, and at what time of the year, so it narrows the species down a little bit.
The birds beak is very large indeed so it is some type of seed/nut feeder

It's a seed-eater. It is quite a small bird, only about House Sparrow-size or maybe slightly bigger - lives in Java (!) and nearby islands but is a popular cage-bird around the world.

This picture was taken in my garden in Essex this morning around 7.15. It has completley taken up my time trying to identify it.
