hello everyone!
i was walking through my local lake in billericay, essex when i looked up and saw 3 birds flying, they were moving so fast and diving towards the water. i tryed to get a photo and video but they were just to fast for me! i know they were brown with a white under, bigger then swallow but smaller then a pigeon, i looked it up on here but the only bird i could find was a hobby. could it be one? well 3? i didnt know i got them down this part of the country. will try again to get some footage.

Hi robin
They could easily have been hobbys. There seem to be plenty about this year. The activity you describe, hawking for dragonflies and the like, over water, sounds quite typical. They fly very fast and have been likened to a very large swift. They are a summer visitor and more commonly seen in southern England. Woodpecker posted some nice photos of hobbys she photographed over gravel pits in Berkshire. Take a look to see what you think.
