Butterfly ID?

I agree with MarJus. Adonis should show dark 'notches' from the outside edge of the white wing margins, and a more turquoise rather than violet-blue colour. Great pics :)

Yes, I agree, Common Blue.  Nothing common about it though, it's beautiful.  Lovely photos!

Common blue or not it is lovely picture, and an ID to be proud of to add to your list.

All members of the Blue family are really attractive so it is getting to grips with the shades of blue to ID the species...not easy at all.  Lots of practice is the best way to get to grips with the species.

The Adonis Butterfly is one of the most vivid shades of blues of all the blue family. It is distinguished from the others in a big way.  I was lucky to see an Adonis in Menorca last year, and it is unforgettable to see. 

Sadly I have no picture to show - the butterfly in question was to fluttery to catch on the shore wind.

Another time perhaps as we will be going to Menorca next year too.
