I have a bird singing in my garden which sings up the scale rather than down the scale like a Willow warbler. I live in a semi rural lowland area in mid-Lancashire and my garden backs onto deciduous woodland and I have breeding Blackcaps, Bullfinches, Nuthatches as well as all the usual tits, thrushes, blackbirds, finches (green and gold). A Chiffchaff also sings in the woods. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to the mysterious singer as I can't spot it as sings from cover.
Hi Selina
Have you tried listening to the calls and songs on the RSPB main website which allow you to play short clips. You can choose birds by name or birds by family - eg warblers. Here's the link.

Apart from the warblers try listening to some of the thrush family like redstart and nightingale or maybe the flycatchers. Of course it could be something as common as a dunnock. They are particularly vocal at the moment.
Good luck TJ

Hi TJ
Thanks for your suggestions. Yes I have listened to the whole lot of RSPB birdsong as well as the one on Radio 4 - enjoyable, but with no success. The critter seems to have no other song other than the acending scale one. It obviously intends to remain mysterious!
