Hi all
I saw both of these birds today and I think I know what they both are.
The first one was a bit far away but should be easily identified from his location:
Two: I heard this ones voice before I spotted the bird:

Hi Woodpecker, I'll leave these two for the sport of others. Just to say that the first's male, and the second's female.
Hi Chris
Super pictures by the way
I would say the first picture is a Male Reed Bunting with that streaked Black head area is a way of giving an ID Of course the reeds give the game away too.
The second picture a Female Chaffinch (the white markings in the wing area gives it away)
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Well, I can't see the first ones head too well, but I'll go male house sparrow or a reed bunting. The second I think is a female chaffinch.
I am sure I will be put right.

Kathy you beat me to it, but at least I am on the right lines
Hi Chris. The first is a male Reed Bunting andthe second a female Chaffinch.
Can't say about the first one as I have never seen one in the flesh but the second I agree with the others that it being a lady chaff.

You've been out to Lavell's Lake/Dinton Pastures again haven't you? I recognise that third reed on the right. I went out there for a couple of hours yesterday. It was a bit thin on the ground but I snapped this little chap for you to test your ID skills on. He wasn't best pleased by my presence.
Best wishes
Tony

Hi everyone
Yes you are all correct. I heard a lady in the hide say can you see that reed bunting and although it was quite a long way off I did just about manage to see it.
The second one, I was following the call of a chiffchaff in the trees, but after I took the photograph I said to my OH I heard a chiffchaff but managed to take a photo of a female chaffinch.
Tony, yes I took these at Lavell's Lake/Dinton Pastures today. Sadly I missed the red kite while I was following the sound of the chiffchaff.
I think your picture is a male blackcap. I also heard one today but didn't see it.

Yes, of course you are absolutey right. He was really angry at my proximity and sounded like a wren on steroids but couldn't keep it up and eventually broke into his sweet song. No wonder they call it the northern nightingale.
