Saw these two sat in a tree whilst walking along the tow path in Bathampton, SW UK. The tree was down in a valley next to the river and I zoomed in as far as I could with the lens I had but it's not the clearest picture in the world. If any one could tell me what they are as they look very much like ducks, but I've never seen ducks in a tree before... I'm sure they are just ducks that fancied a change but if someone could confirm this :)
Hi,
they appear to be young cormorants- sitting in trees is normal for cormorants :)

Hi Baenrahel,
These are Cormorants.
Hope this helps.
Oops, did it again S, people will begin to talk!
thanks :) I knew it would be something simple - cormorants didn't show on the bird identifier I attempted to use though, ah well... maybe next time for the great discovery!
these are young cormorants- they have pale bellies and a 'by the numbers' type ID system is far from fool proof:)
For example, blue tits regularly feed in reed beds in winter, that will probably not show up on an 'ID by the numbers' system :)
By the length of the body, and the position of the head parts
Young Cormorants are agreed here too
It is strange when we see these birds in trees and that is part of nature after all.
