Last night I heard a very loud waaah waaah call coming from the woods by my flat in north Bristol. It went on for about 40 mins from 22:50-23:30ish. It was as loud as a person shouting and shortly before finishing, there was a fainter call in answer to it.
There are quite a few tawny owls in the woods. Do they have that sort of call? I managed to record it and could try to download and post to here.
Are you sure it was a bird ? urban foxes can make an awful racket during the night. If it is a bird Tawny Owl is probably your best bet.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I think you will need to post the audio clip, Red Squirrel, otherwise people will just be guessing. You can post audio clips in the same way as you post photos. If you don't know how to do that read the How To thread.

Hi folks. It did sound like a bird call and there are plenty of tawnies in the woods so I suspect it's that. However, it's an unusual call - more like something you'd hear in the jungles of South-East Asia! I can't upload the recording as it's a 3ga file and I don't know how to get it on to my computer from my phone. I've emailed it to myself so far. Any ideas? Thanks - Chrissie
Hi Chrissie,First you need to move it from your email to your desktop. There should be a option on the email to download/save.
Once out of the email you can upload it to this free online site to convert it to MP3.

You could try uploading to the site from your email with out moving see if it works then follow Teejay's advice.
Hope you sort it i am curious to know what it is if not a Fox :-)
