I've been looking through some old photo's and came across this picture if you look to the left of the windmill you will see the bird flying just above the water, it was a while before it dawned on me that it was even a bird, I'd been looking at it wondering what that strange thing sticking out the water was, I'm wondering if it is a little gull, but can't say for sure .

Thanks for that seymour, now you say that it does look like the black on it's face doesn't come back as far as the little gull, sorry for disrupting your QI, that is a good show, I still can't figure out how Fry arrives at those bizarre scores at the end.

I took the liberty of lightenening the shadows of your photo and cropping it a bit so you can see the gull a little more clearly.
Nice photo in its own right irrespective of the BH Gull. Where did you take it?

The photo was taken on the Norfolk broads, used to do a lot of boating, and had many a holiday there.
Nice windmill Bishy, and good to have an old mystery solved! I like windmills very much also mill water wheels - studying old corn and textile mills is one of my other lives.

Hi Sparrow Thank you. yes they are fascinating, I remember going up a windmill on one of our trips the stairs were almost vertical, can't tell you how shakey I was when I got to the top.
Beautiful photo BBB. I can relate to the stairs as I climbed to the top of the Bridgewater Monument a few years back and my legs were like jelly by the time I reached the platform! Spectacular views from there, though - a pity I didn't have my camera with me. Means I will have to go through the torture again.....maybe......one day........
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
