Saw these two birds on the feeder tray and I am unsure as to what they are. Would appreciate help

Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain.
~ Mark Twain

  • Hi Birdwatcher, glad you got a correct i.d. for the birds on the feeder table. I'd never have suggested reed buntings as the drawing in my book looks nothing like them - but then the drawing in my book of a male bullfinch has to be seen to be believed. If it had been a photo I'd have said it have been Photoshopped to within an inch of its life!

    Many thanks for letting me know about the black swan cygnet. That is incredibly sad, especially after it survived the harsh winter after being born so late in 2009. Let's hope for a better outcome this year, if they can find a new mate for the mother.

    The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

    The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

    Hi Squirrel

    That was my first thought too

    Some sad news from Washington WWT the Black Swan Cygnet got a bad leg injury they tried to save it but it has  has since died. I was going to get you an udated photo as I know you have folled its progress. Talking to the girl, the swan  had lost her mate and now all 3 cygnets but they are going to get her a new mate so watch this space

    Thats so sad for her to lose them all, I hope she gets her new mate soon and has a happy ending to her story, is she likely to accept a new mate with ease, ( I do hope so poor thing ),  I'll be watching this space with intrest.

    There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.

    Hi Birdwatcher

    Sorry missed the story about the Black Swan cynet as noticed that this thread was on page  2

    Another thing is that the Pen {female Black Swan} has had to endure her sad life without her former mate, and her Cynets.

    Love to hear the end result and let it be a happy one for her and she finds another mate Cob {male black Swan}

    Regards

    Kathy and Dave
