While I was upstairs getting ready to go out my wife and heard a huge bang and assumed it was the two Burmese having a battle and gone into the patio window ~ let me explain that we live in the middle of town with two storeys one side and three the other, so our patio window is really first floor level.
As we were leaving I checked the window to see that it was locked and noticed the print on the glass. There is no bird outside so if it was a pigeon the sparrow hawk got it. But was it the pigeon or the sparrow hawk that hit the window?
The tape is 24" so the bird possible had a 30" wing span, the wing ends are interesting and the beak should be the decider ~ but I am not sure.
So can you detectives please help me?
David
OMG David, I bet that did hurt. Owch. It's a wonder your window survived.
I hope someone can help you with this one. I would be interested in the answer.
Cheers, Linda.

Good heavens, after a thump like that you would expect it to be lying dead. Hope it wasn't too badly hurt and someone can identify the species
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
Hi David
Now that certainly had a lot of pain going there ouch!!
I would hedge my bets that it was the Pigeon that went into your window. I think the Sparrowhawk is too nimble and clever to avoid objects in its way
Great to see you pictures.
The silouette of the shape of the bird which has marked the glass is something else. A big ouch comes to mind.
Is there any sign of the remains of the Pigeon closeby maybe - if the Sparrowhawk has got it
Regards

Can see the pics now. Ouch thats gotta hurt!
The head shape looks more like a pigon to me. Look forward to seeing expert opinions.

OUCH !!!! , poor thing, the impression it has left is amazing, the detail in those wing tip feathers are unbelievable, how on earth does that happen, is that dust or grease from their feathers that create the impression or a bit of both.

Hi,
the photos won't appear for me but a female sparrowhawk does have a wingspan of 26- 30 inches
