I saw a pair of ducks at Radipole at the weekend and I can't identify them. There were two of them and unfortunately they were quite far away but I took some photos and I wonder if anybody can ID them for me please? Thanks.

Thank you very much. Now that I know what to look at in the book I can see that they are indeed gadwell. The LBJs of the duck world ;-)
Kathy - yes, there are three pictures of distant gadwell.

Yes, they are Gadwell, and they have strong black markings on their rear end
I notice that Gadwell have squarish heads - the head is flat on top like they have a cropped hair do.
