Lesser black backed, winter, just wanted to add, ( probably totally wrong ). looking tatty because of moulting into summer plummage.
There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.
Wing looks broad, so I'd go for a Great Black-backed Gull.

Zoom right in and the legs are flesh in colour. GBbG I think!
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Oh B****R lol, yes I see that now I've zoomed in, is that bill heavier as well. Its face doesn't look so streaked zoomed right in neither.
OK guys, well done :)
it's a Great black back Gull moulting from 3rd winter to 4th summer- the photo was taken in August- so it's almost an adult. Note the bill ring and the freshly growing short inner primaries. HmcH was right- the legs are a giveaway as is the pattern of white on the two outer primaries.
