Our new Our visitor came back to the table today and brought lunch. Fascinating to see the circle of life, but sad to think one of our regulars WAS lunch. Do sparrows have bright yellow on some feathers or was this somethings else? We do have four goldfinches daily, I hope it's not one of them, they are so beautiful and stay for 20mins or so on a feeder. see photos below.
Well I have to confess when our regular sparrowhawk lands on the fence if I see it I make a noise to scare it and it doesn't seem to come as regulary now. I also moved the feeders so they were not out in the openIt has had a bluetit and a blackbird in the past I know they have to eat but I would rather it wasn't one of my babies
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
I can see the photos now :o)
Nice of him to use your table, LOL!
I know what you mean about thinking its one of your regulars, that does sort of make things feel a bit different on a personal level. Although I haven't seen the female that frequents here catch anything for a while, I've seen her with nothing (a lot lately!) and a Sparrow was the last one. The worst was the male last year who caught a Starling, the Starling's screams were quite possible the most awful thing I have ever heard!
Hi all
I can't see the photos either. I've reloaded, clicked the forum button, came back and did it all again but I still can't see them.
Mind you, I suppose maybe it's not too bad that I can't see photos of a half eaten goldfinch...
Best wishes Chris

I have also tried different ways but still not seeing the picture. I will try again tomorrow.
Great photos Worm, thanks for sharing them. So sad that it is one of your goldfinches but that is nature and at least the sparrowhawk killed to survive and not just for "fun".
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Buzzard said: The bird which has been eaten is a Goldfinch! I would also identify it as a male Goldfinch, the yellow on the primaries and the black nasal hair above the remains of the beak.

Buzzard you are brilliant as ever!
I can't even see any pics and you have identified the nasal hair!
This is strange, I can see photo's on other threads, but still can't see this one or a photo on one of Sparrow's threads.
Hi Brenda,
I can't see the sparrowhawk photos either now, but they were there last night.
Cheers, Linda.
