Hi all
I read somewhere once that Raisins / Sultanas should be soaked before putting out for birds - so that is what I do and the Blackbirds and Starlings love them! I'm confused though as many brands of birdfood - including that sold by the RSPB have large tough pieces of dried fruit in them. Is this safe?
Any advice welcome

I don't do anything, I just put them on the front lawn as they are (not the back because they are poisonous to dogs)

As well as raisins, grapes are toxic for dogs but go down a treat with the birds.
I always soak dried fruit but only because it provides fluids and it doesn't choke youngsters.If i do it all year round i don't forget lol.

I have been buying the Tesco value mixed dried fruit pack for some years now and they always seem very moist to me and there is never any leftover!! Must admit that it never occurred to me to soak - keep learning new things on here!! Mind you, I do get a lot of greedy starlings & blackbirds - they can cope ok - goes down whole!!!
Thanks all for your views. To be on the safe side I think I'll keep soaking and cut up any big tough bits mixed in with bought birdfood as Doggie suggests.
