I have been an avid bird watcher for many years. I have a large garden and recently my husband made me a new bird table which is situated at the top of my garden so I can watch the birds come to feed. About a month ago 2 long tailed tits visited the table. I always thought long tails came in flocks so I was very surprised when this pair came time & time again so to encourage them to stay I bought a variety of foodstuff to keep them here. To my amazement they were more interested in the mashed potato I put out daily for the blackbirds!! My long tails are now here all the time feasting on fresh mashed potato. I have also had the pleasure of a pair of bullfinches this year happily bathing in my waterfall. I am truly a well satisfied couch potato now. I have now bought a remote sensor garden cam/video and hope to port the pictures for you to see.

great ideas Marina and Mary, if I have eggs on sell by date I boil them up, shell them and throw them out for the corvids who enjoy them; also the suet powder also goes into my pastry so nothing gets wasted. The pastry is such a hit and at the moment I've just made a batch of cheap Penne pasta, cooked al-dente, chucked two tins of Aldi brand cat food plus cheap mild cheddar cheese chunks and about to treat the corvids to lunch lol

LOL they will love you for it. I have never tried ours with pasta, I used to boil it every evening on Papa Westray and feed the gulls. They loved it. I will try it with the Maggies - see what they think of it. I think I saw a youngster on Sunday ... not sure .. but I know 'our' pair was feeding as I saw the male getting massive bites of pastry - and worms, to take back to the nest. They have also started attacking again the food I leave out for the foxes.

I had two LTT come into my garden, I mix various foods and get a good variety of our feather friends, but the LTT only came twice and never saw them again. Will have to try harder with my food mix.
