Hello,
Is anyone able to suggest any slug killer/repellent products that are not harmful to the birds I feed in my garden please?
I don't wish to cause harm to animals (including slugs) but they are completely destroying all of my plants at the moment.
Thanks in advance!
Laura
Good question and hopefully someone will come up with an answer containing things that I haven't tried, but that have worked!!! All the environmentally friendly pellets have been a failure.....impossible to measure in terms of reducing slug numbers, but no evidence they reduced the damage!
Not an easy question to answer. Not only birds you have to worry about but hedgehogs too. Chemicals in a garden is probably not a good idea if you support wild life. But one thing you could try, but i don't know the effectiveness is a BEER TRAP. Would be worth looking up and look at any reviews for those products.
If only Ha!! we would be millionaires.
Personally I clear all dead leaves regularly and spread very fine grit....but I saw this on google

Wow I’d never heard of this!! Went out and bought some beer traps this evening and have popped them outside so will see if they work. I’m sure my husband won’t be pleased when he finds out I’ve given his beer to the slugs haha!! Thank you ️
Alan Titchmarch said about sharp gravel (or dried and crushed eggshells) spread around the base of vulnerable plants
Hope it works for you. Not nice to see hard work in the garden eaten by slugs.
I would like to report that these beer traps definitely work. Checked this morning and in the 2 traps I put out last night I’d say I have about 30 slugs in them!
Well done,
so pleased William's reply helped you, do keep us posted, as this will always help others looking .So thank you for letting us know.
Hope you can now, enjoy your garden
That is a good result and so quick to start working.
What happened to the slugs, and has the damage they're doing being reduced, or are more slugs coming to your garden?
