Rose-ringed Parakeets in West Yorkshire

Spotted a rose-ringed parakeet on the bird feeder early this morning.   Never seen one in our area before. We live in West Yorkshire.  Is it unusual for it to be so far north?  Would have taken more photos but a magpie scared off the parkakeet.  Will keep a look out in case the parakeet returns.

  • In this country, they are known as ring necked parakeets. They have spread far and wide, north and west from London area to large parts of England.
  • Tricia web have them up the road in North Yorkshire and I'm certain they are around in West Yorkshire. They are an either love or hate species some birders, myself included, are not happy with them as they are not native birds and take oveer nest sites from native birds and also destroy garden feeders with their powerful beaks.
