Is there any way to stop the pigeons from hoovering up the bird table food before any other bird gets a look in? The table is one of the RSPB Gothic ones, with a roof. I had hoped the robins and blackbirds would use it but they don't stand a chance!

I doubt you could stop pigeons feeding from a bird table. Being basically ground feeders, bird tables will provide a suitable platform to eat from, with the added plus they will eat almost anything seed/grain wise.
Don't think feeders are free from pigeons feeding from either. We have feeders specifically for small birds, and the wood pigeons here fly on to them and with gentle flapping of wings, manage to feed from the feeders!
The only possibility may be a feeder with a squirrel guard around it.
