Drumming

Hi, I have asked on the chat site but my feedback was not covering what I needed to know. Anyone who is an expert on this. Please see below. Hi, Has anyone come across birds drumming? I have, until recently,only seen it once before. The drummers, i.e. rapidly lifting one leg after the other, were herring gulls. This was inland and they were drumming on a lawn in the middle of a roundabout. I do not know but my guess was that this brought the earthworms to the surface for a quick snack. Now this one I cannot work out. Collared doves are doing it on a six foot high wooden fence. This is now a daily event before they come into the garden...

    Hi Hooky,   I think they refer to it as "worm dancing"  and Wendy on here has taken videos of the gulls doing their "River Dance" impressions !     As for the collared doves, I've not seen that before so maybe one of our experts on here can come up with a few ideas as to their tap dancing behaviour.

    Hi Hazy,

      This is a good link and I enjoyed the river dance. The thing is that these are collard doves and it is on a wooden fence.

    Do you this is just an audition?

        I can't explain why they would "tap dance" on the fence line Hooky and can't find anything online about it but here's a link to explaining some more unusual bird behaviour HERE
